In my bachelor project Videotopia, control over several aspects of the gameplay, which are usually computer-controlled, is handed to another person. The classic game genre — space shooter — is therefore defined by two people — the Player and the Game Master — concept known from popular Dungeons and Dragons board game. Game Master has power to control, for instance: difficulty, speed, spamming enemies but has also option to help the Player by giving health or boost and therefore decide about the role they want to take.

They do so by using special controller made out of the case from old VCR which symbolizes main theme of the game — dystopian reality where old technologies take over human race. However, only few buttons are marked with corresponding effect, most of them are random every game which makes it more unpredictable and fun for the Game Master too. The Player controls a battleship and tries to fulfill their task by defeating the enemy and saving the humanity. Visual style is inspired by video games from 80s and early 90s.
